Volunteers Make Hundreds of Sandwiches To Feed the Hungry in Guelph

Last month, volunteers in Guelph, Ontario, put together 500 sandwiches to help feed people facing food insecurity.

Members of the Italian Canadian Club, volunteers from Stepping Stone, and other community-minded people used 30 pounds of meat and an equal amount of cheese, along with hundreds of sandwich buns, to feed those in need.

The volunteers prepared about 500 salami and provolone sandwiches for those facing food insecurity in the community. This was the second year of the initiative by the Italian Canadian Club in Guelph, which turned a simple idea into an annual tradition of giving back. The food was donated by the local Longo’s grocery store, and volunteers worked together on an assembly line to prepare the meals. The sandwiches were then delivered by Stepping Stone staff to those in need through the organization’s emergency shelter, family shelter, and supportive housing programs.

For the Italian Canadian Club, which is approaching its 75th anniversary, such community-minded initiatives are ways to give back to the community. The organizers have a simple goal: to ensure more people have access to a meal while strengthening community connections.
