Volunteers Help Clean Regina’s North Central

Volunteers from Piapot First Nation and members of the community recently helped clean up Regina’s North Central neighbourhood.

The community cleanup was organized by Piapot First Nation and hosted by Creeland Mini Mart and Miyo Askiy. Dozens of volunteers participated and helped tidy open lots, sidewalks, and back alleyways.

Piapot First Nation Chief Mark Fox praised volunteers for the noticeable difference they had made in reducing the amount of garbage scattered along streets and back alleys in North Central. Volunteers worked hard throughout the day to collect litter between Angus Street and Robinson Street and from 4th to 7th Avenue, removing everything from furniture and clothing to general trash, including larger items such as couches, mattresses, and chairs, making the neighbourhood cleaner and more welcoming for residents.

The area is home to many marginalized people on fixed incomes who may not have the money to pay dumping fees. The community cleanup event helped clean up the area and make it beautiful once again. Over 50 volunteers from 11 community groups participated in the community cleanup, which was inspired by the North Central Neighbourhood Revitalization Plan.
