The Whitehorse Thrift Society recently awarded $30,000 to nine Yukon community groups as part of its annual Sharing Our Success program. The grants will support projects that promote waste diversion, skills training, arts and culture, and public education on reuse and repair.

The Sharing Our Success grants program was created in 2021, and it offers financial support to local organizations making a positive difference in the community. The grants help local groups carry out projects that benefit residents and promote positive change. The program is funded through proceeds from the Whitehorse Community Thrift Store Society and its Love2Thrift store, which focuses on sustainability, affordability, and supporting local charities. Earlier this year, the society also donated $3,300 to the local Humane Society, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to giving back to the community.

The nine community groups that received the grants are as follows:

• $5,000 for the Lorne Mountain Community Association Repair Fair.
• $4,500 for Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition’s Backyard Garden Program.
• $4,200 to the Yukon Conservation Society for Creative Conservation workshops.
• $4,000 to Inclusion Yukon for a mural project using recycled materials.
• $3,585 to Raven Recycling for zero-waste education initiatives.
• $3,450 to Yukon Artists at Work for workshops using repurposed materials.
• $3,265 to The Guild Hall Society for its Round Back Festival.
• $1,500 to the Yukon Arts Society for its Arts in the Communities program.
• $500 to F.H. Collins Secondary School’s robotics club.
