A Prince Edward Island teen has launched his own youth political organization and is inviting all youth on the Island to help create a bright future for Prince Edward Island.

15-year-old Tyson Wilson founded The Next Chapter, a youth-led, non-partisan group that aims to educate and engage the Island’s youth in politics. The youth political group aims to get more young people involved in shaping the province’s future.

Tyson Wilson created The Next Chapter because he felt that if young people do not understand or speak up about politics, their voices will not be heard. He wanted to build a team of like-minded students who could work together on issues that matter to them. The group currently has nine executive members, all high school students.

The group’s 16-year-old vice-president, Clarity Smith, says she wants to help bring attention to issues young Islanders face every day, such as vaping and bullying in schools. Together, they hope to encourage more youth across P.E.I. to take part in politics and stand up for what they believe in.

The youth group’s official launch was recently attended by Islanders of all ages, including local Members of the Legislative Assembly who came out to show their support.
