Saxophonist’s Quest to Make Toronto a Better Place

Helping others is a way of life for Dave McLaughlin, a saxophonist in Toronto. McLaughlin has held multiple fundraising concerts to fund scholarships for deserving young people in the Greater Toronto Area and support worthy charities.

McLaughlin leads the Dave McLaughlin Band, which performs at corporate events, weddings, and other social gatherings around the Greater Toronto Area. He recently held a fundraising gospel concert to honour three prominent figures: Lincoln Alexander, Nelson Mandela, and Jesse Jackson, on Feb. 28. He holds two or three concerts annually to raise money to help deserving youth in the Greater Toronto Area and support those who need help. McLaughlin has also donated a portion of his CD sales to worthy charities.

Dave McLaughlin moved to Canada in 1991 and later became a Canadian citizen. Over the years, he has travelled around the world performing for large audiences and has opened shows for the legendary singer Ray Charles. Rita Marley, the wife of reggae legend Bob Marley, considers him her adopted son and trusted him to write a song celebrating Bob Marley’s life.

Dave McLaughlin’s strong commitment to charity comes from the lessons he learned from his father and grandmother while growing up in Montego Bay. At a young age, he was taught that helping others is a commandment from God and that people are blessed when they care for the poor. His support for public education and helping young people comes from his belief that every child can grow up to become a doctor or a lawyer or even turn to crime, so it is important to guide them to make the right choices.
