Manulife Canada Commits $1 Million to Improve Longevity in Halifax

Manulife Canada has committed to investing $1 million in one of Halifax’s largest recreation centres to improve community health, accessibility, and active living.

The $1 million will be invested over the next 10 years to support the Manulife Recreation Centre (formerly the Canada Games Centre). Manulife’s partnership with the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Canada Games Centre Society is meant to promote healthier and more active lifestyles in the community. The sponsorship will enable residents to enjoy free monthly access to the gym and pool and the “Healthy Habits, Active Advice” program to support community wellness.

Andy Fillmore, Mayor of Halifax, said the centre is an important community hub where people of all ages can stay active, connect with others, and feel part of the community. The 176,000-square-foot Manulife Recreation Centre at 26 Thomas Raddall Drive offers sport and recreation programs, camps, fitness classes, and more in an inclusive environment.

The Recreation Centre serves more than 10,000 members and nearly 1,000,000 visitors each year, with inclusive programs for families, seniors, youth, and high-performance athletes. With this new partnership, the public will be allowed to use the Field House and Aquatics Centre at the Manulife Recreation Centre for free once a month. The goal is to support people’s physical, mental, and financial well-being.
