In the small community of Fiske, west-central Saskatchewan, a local mother has turned to her community for help as she faces urgent repairs to her home.
Rebecca Siemens says she is hosting a “good old-fashioned barn raising”-style fundraiser on May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Fiske Community Hall to help fix her home. The fundraiser will feature a silent auction, live music, door prizes, and a food truck. Residents are encouraged to come out, donate, or contribute items for the auction to help support Siemens and her family. Here is a link to her GoFundMe page.
Siemens explained that the roof problem in her house started as a small leak soon after she moved in 11 years ago, but over time, it has gotten much worse. With water leaking through walls and holes, the roof now needs to be completely replaced.
When Siemens was unable to find funding elsewhere, she turned to her community for help. The funds raised will help fix the roof so she and her seven-year-old daughter can continue living on their farm near Fiske. Siemens works as a school bus driver and depends on support from people around her, especially after school, since her daughter gets home from school before she finishes work.
Siemens is grateful for the early donations and support she has already received from her community, as it has made a big difference and given her hope.
