The Dairy Queen in Moosomin, a growing town in southeastern Saskatchewan, sold 11,196 Blizzards on Miracle Treat Day last month, raising $52,000 for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
The Moosomin Dairy Queen had set a goal of selling 10,000 Blizzards after selling 7,880 the year before. Over the past five years, Moosomin DQ has raised more than $178,000 for the children’s hospital, making it the hospital’s top fundraising Dairy Queen location. More than half of the 11,196 Blizzards sold this year were bought as donations for others, including local businesses, daycares, schools, the hospital, and long-term care facilities.
The Moosomin Dairy Queen plans to deliver Blizzards to schools and organizations across southeastern Saskatchewan. This fall, the DQ plans to deliver Blizzards to 14 schools in communities including Montmartre, Kipling, Redvers, Wawota, Maryfield, Moosomin, Rocanville, Esterhazy, Churchbridge, Langenburg, Grayson, and Elkhorn.
DQ owners Joanne, Morgan, and Heather Kerr thanked the community and everyone involved for their participation and support. The owners had toured Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital last year, and the media support helped raise the numbers this year. Preparation for this year’s Treat Day began months in advance, and the effort involved more than 60 coolers filled with Blizzards and many people working together to make the deliveries happen. Looking at this year’s success, they have plans to deliver Blizzards to more communities next year.
