Red Deer Food Bank’s Hunger Action Month Campaign

The Red Deer Food Bank has launched its Hunger Action Month campaign to raise awareness about food insecurity.

Every September, communities across North America observe Hunger Action Month. Through the campaign, the Red Deer Food Bank is encouraging people to find practical ways to help, such as donating food or money, volunteering, organizing food drives, and taking part in community events.

The food bank says hunger is not always easy to see, but it affects thousands of people across central Alberta. In 2025, more than 30,500 people received support from the Red Deer Food Bank, with children making up about 40 per cent of those served. The food bank also recorded about 44,000 pantry visits and distributed approximately 1.6 million pounds of food.

Each week of September, the campaign focuses on a different part of the fight against hunger. Week 1, “Hunger Is Closer Than You Think,” helps people understand who uses the food bank and why more individuals and families are asking for support. Week 2, “Food Fuels a Child’s Future,” focuses on how having enough food helps children learn, grow, and take part in school.

Week 3, “Every Action Matters,” will highlight the many ways people, businesses, and community groups can help, including donating, volunteering, organizing food drives, and raising awareness. Week 4, “Stronger Communities Start at the Table,” will show how the Red Deer Food Bank works with community partners and regional food banks to help people across central Alberta.
