Firefighters Raise over $371,000 for Albertans With Cancer

Firefighters from across Canada, the U.S., and Europe have raised over $371,000 at the 12th annual Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge to support Albertans living with cancer.

Over 500 firefighters from Red Deer and other communities in central Alberta came together for the 12th annual Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge to climb 57 storeys up Brookfield Place in downtown Calgary last month. Each firefighter climbed the 1,370 steps at Brookfield Place to reach the top, while carrying a 40-pound SCBA tank, demonstrating the same spirit of service and determination that defines the fire service.

The challenge was organized by Wellspring Alberta to raise awareness and money to support firefighters and citizens living with cancer. The total amount raised during the 2026 Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge was $371,785. The event was possible due to the support of firefighters, supporters, sponsors, and partners, including the City of Calgary, Jeromy “Pathfinder” Farkas, Calgary Firefighters, Brookfield Properties, the City of Calgary Fire Department, and PlanIt Sound.

The money raised will go to Wellspring Alberta, a charity that helps people manage the emotional, social, and practical challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis. Since its inception in 2015, the event has enabled firefighters to raise over $3.3 million.
