The Near North Palliative Care Network recently held its 17th Annual Butterfly Release, bringing together people of all ages to remember and celebrate their loved ones who have passed away.

For the past 17 years, the Near North Palliative Care Network’s Butterfly Release has brought the entire community together. The family-friendly event featured live musical performances by Lynn Blunt, Rose-Erin Stokes, Silver Lining, and Josh Dimmel, along with a full day of community programming and engagement. Additional activities included a community BBQ hosted by the Widdifield Lions Club, local community booths, a children’s colouring contest, auctions, raffle prizes, and much more.

At the 17th annual event, over 600 families participated and released more than 750 butterflies as a symbol of hope, remembrance, and the lasting connections shared with those they have lost. The annual fundraiser also helps support the network’s free palliative care services for people facing the end of life. The event also supports the Near North Palliative Care Network’s free hospice, grief, bereavement, and end-of-life services for people and families across Nipissing and East Parry Sound.

Near North Palliative Care Network (NNPCN) is a not-for-profit volunteer organization with a mission to enhance the comfort, dignity, and quality of life of individuals with terminal illnesses and to offer bereavement support throughout the community.
