BC Charity Completes 70 Years of Creating Vibrant Communities

For seven decades, NEXUS Community Support Society has been helping create vibrant, inclusive communities throughout British Columbia’s Interior.

The registered charity has acted as a pillar of support for people living in B.C.’s Interior by creating places where people feel connected, valued, and supported for life.

The charity’s services are designed to support people in every part of their lives: at home, in the community, and at work. It offers housing options such as staff-supported living, independent living support, short-term transition programs, and affordable housing for seniors, all focused on creating safe and supportive homes.

To build great communities, the charity provides outreach programs, social activities, and life skills programs to residents. It helps those in need live with freedom and dignity by offering in-home assistance with daily tasks. Its unique programs, like Cycling Without Age, have been helping seniors stay active and engaged. The charity also provides job training and personalized support to help people find and keep meaningful employment.

In the 1950s, families in places like Cranbrook and Creston came together to advocate for inclusion and support. In 2021, these local groups joined to form NEXUS. In 2023, Windermere District Social Service Society, known as WeCONNECT, from the Columbia Valley, joined NEXUS, making it even stronger.

Today, NEXUS supports people in 12 communities across B.C., from Williams Lake to the Creston Valley, continuing its long tradition of supporting and empowering individuals and families while creating communities that embrace diversity and equality.
