Serfas Farms, a locally owned farming and feedlot operation in southwestern Alberta, Canada, has donated $1 million to help bring cardiac care to southern Alberta.

The $1-million donation was made to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation in Lethbridge to support its Bringing Hearts Home campaign. The campaign is focused on improving cardiac care in the community. Since the 1950s, the Serfas family has been farming and is well-known for its hard work, innovation, and commitment to the community.

The donation was made by the third generation managing the farm to help create a future cardiac centre of excellence in Lethbridge. The family says the donation is about more than the money, as it is about leaving a lasting legacy and helping save lives in the community. Kevin Serfas said the goal is to build better cardiac care in Lethbridge so people in southern Alberta do not have to travel to Calgary for treatment.

Southern Alberta Cardiac Sciences Advisory Cabinet chair Dr. Sayeh Zielke said the donation also shows decision-makers how strongly the community supports the project and will help move it forward faster. Once operational, the new cardiac centre will expand access to specialized services and help more patients receive timely care closer to home.
