On the occasion of Human Trafficking Awareness Day, Airbnb pledged to donate $660,000 to six Ontario organizations to help combat abuse and exploitation in support of survivors of human trafficking and other vulnerable communities.
The Airbnb Community Fund has so far donated approximately $2 million CAD to over two dozen Canadian organizations. The $660,000 donation will help the six Ontario organizations deliver essential services such as safe housing, counselling, and community-based care for survivors of human trafficking and others at risk.
The following organizations are receiving donations:
- Amelia Rising Sexual Assault Centre Of Nipissing (North Bay, ON) will utilize the funds to expand counselling, prevention, and advocacy services and strengthen capacity to deliver trauma-informed care and education.
- Canadian Mental Health Association, Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services (London, ON) will use the funds to furnish apartments with items needed to support comfort and a sense of belonging for new tenants.
- Huronia Transition Homes (Midland, ON) will use the funds to support programs providing safe housing, food, care, and resources for women and children.
- KCWA Family and Social Services (Toronto, ON) will use the funds to expand mobile services programs that support newcomers and vulnerable families and strengthen community connections.
- Muskoka Victim Services (Bracebridge, ON) will use the funds to sustain client support services and respond to evolving community needs.
- SafeHope Home (Ajax, ON) will use the funds to provide safe housing, care, and support services for women and youth escaping human trafficking.
Started in 2020, the Airbnb Community Fund also provides financial support to organizations working to fight abuse and exploitation. The fund is a nearly $140 million initiative that supports local communities and has donated to more than 50 groups in 17 countries since its launch.
