Big Brothers Big Sisters Prince Edward Island’s annual bowling fundraiser aims to create more opportunities for P.E.I. youth.
Big Brothers Big Sisters P.E.I. is holding its Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser on Feb. 28 in Charlottetown, Summerside, and North Rustico. About 50 children are currently waiting to be matched with a mentor, according to executive director Myron Yates. The organization aims to raise funds to support local mentoring programs.
Participation dropped during the pandemic, but the group hopes to grow the number of teams again so they can continue helping children build strong, positive relationships with mentors.
Bowl for Kids’ Sake is one of the two main fundraising events held by Big Brothers Big Sisters P.E.I., along with its annual home draw. The annual fundraiser is a meaningful tradition because it shows children that their community cares about them. Every $1,500 raised helps cover all related costs for one mentorship match for a full year. Even people who cannot attend can still help by fundraising or donating to a team.
