A $30,000 grant from the Halton Region Community Investment Fund is helping Food4Kids Halton expand its weekend food support program for elementary-age kids with limited or no access to food.
The grant money has been used to set up two new commercial refrigerators at the organization’s site at Country Heritage Park. The extra storage space will enable the program to store more food and provide additional support to vulnerable children across the Halton Region.
The expanded facility with new equipment will further support the organization’s Weekends Without Hunger program, which currently serves over 1,200 children from more than 800 families in Halton.
The Halton Region Community Investment Fund (HRCIF) supports the health, safety, and well-being of Halton residents by providing funding to nonprofit human service programs and initiatives. Local trustees Donna Danielli and Marvin Duarte, along with regional councillor Colin Best, recently joined the Food4Kids Halton team to celebrate the new funding that will help support children in need.
Executive director Jennifer Sully-Ferraro said the grant helps cover rising food costs so the program can continue providing healthy food packages to kids in need.
