Winnipeg Community Came Together to Feed the Hungry

Community groups in South Winnipeg joined forces for a vital food drive to support Harvest Manitoba and evacuees from Northern Manitoba who were displaced by the wildfires.

Community groups such as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Manitoba, the Winnipeg Chinese Senior Association, the Manitoba Multifaith Council, and the Manitoba Islamic Association participated in the food drive.

The food drive in South Winnipeg was conducted from Monday, June 16, to Saturday, June 21. People were requested to drop off donations of non-perishable food items at a student housing building at 2537 Pembina Hwy. All donations were received by Harvest Manitoba, which helps feed the hungry in the province.

67-year-old Songyan Liu co-founded the non-profit organization in 2016 to spread public health knowledge and promote the well-being of members of Winnipeg’s Chinese community.

The annual food drive brings together people from a variety of faith backgrounds, and people from anywhere in the city are invited to participate.
