WRCF Provides $1.7 Million to 84 Local Organizations

The Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF) provided a $1.7 million fund to 84 local organizations through three of its grant streams: Arts Grants, Community Grants, and Racial Equity Grants, to improve social infrastructure.

WRCF fundholders, donors, and a partnership with Trinity United Church (Kitchener) contributed to the donation. The funds will help improve meaningful social interactions and strengthen the social infrastructure within and across the Waterloo Region. WRCF research shows that it aligns its work with the Gehl Studio’s Framework, which includes three types of activated spaces: Hubs, Havens, and Hangouts.

WRCF’s Arts Fund provided $313,000 to 18 organizations, while $1 million was provided to 47 organizations through WRCF’s Community Funds. Another $383,000 was provided to 19 organizations through WRCF’s Racial Equity Fund.

Eric Avner, President & CEO of the Waterloo Region Community Foundation, shared that the way they use public spaces by offering programs and activities can help bring people together, encourage learning, and strengthen community connections.
