Since 1957, Volunteer Ottawa has connected thousands of volunteers to hundreds of local charities that rely on the time and talent of volunteers.
As one of approximately 150 volunteer centres across Canada, Volunteer Ottawa provides support and services to the public and organizations. The organization promotes and celebrates volunteerism, helping those interested find opportunities. Volunteer Ottawa has helped strengthen capacity for non-profits through training and networking, inspired diversity and inclusion, and encouraged local employers to give back and invest in the community.
Volunteering can be a powerful and rewarding experience, especially for newcomers and older adults. Volunteers at Volunteer Ottawa have shared how volunteering has helped them feel connected while providing a sense of purpose. Christine Trauttmansdorff, executive director of Volunteer Ottawa, says many people feel they gain more than they give through volunteering. She adds that for older adults, it also helps reduce loneliness and provides structure after retirement or the loss of a loved one.
Volunteer Ottawa works with around 300 charities and not-for-profit organizations. Its simple goal is to connect groups needing help with volunteers who have the skills, interests, and desire to give their time.
