Manitoba’s Stone Soup Campaign Supports over 400 School Meal Programs

Manitoba celebrated its 13th annual Stone Soup Fundraiser in March, in which the community came together to enjoy a warm bowl of soup and raise funds and awareness for school meal programs across Manitoba.

About 50 restaurants from around the province participated in the campaign by creating their signature soups during the week of March 17-23, 2025. Every restaurant donated $1 from the sale of every bowl of soup to the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba. The funds raised through the campaign will be used to support Manitoba’s school meal and snack programs.

In addition to supporting school meal programs, the Stone Soup campaign hopes to eventually be able to contribute money to help pay for the infrastructure and staffing of schools. Through individual and corporate donations, the campaign raised more than $27,000 in 2024, which was used to support school meal programs throughout the province.

The Stone Soup fundraiser is inspired by a European folk tale where an entire village pitched in to make the soup for hungry travelers. The campaign was launched in 2001 with only 10 school meal programs in place, which has now grown to support over 400 school meal programs across the province.
