Toronto has unveiled a new city-wide campaign to promote and support locally owned businesses. The campaign called “Love Local” encourages residents to shop, dine, and invest locally.
Love Local is among 10 immediate actions outlined in the mayor’s economic action plan in response to tariff threats from the U.S. government. It aims to promote the local economy by supporting Canadian-grown businesses and maintaining Toronto’s economic strength in the face of trade uncertainty.
“Love Local” LED signs are being installed at prominent public sites such as Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto Public Library Agincourt Branch, Mel Lastman Square, East Lynn Park, Mel Lastman Square, St. Clements-Yonge Parkette, and Port Union Community Recreation Centre, among other locations. Local businesses are displaying campaign decals and engaging with customers through shopfront signage and social media participation.
The campaign encourages residents to shop at independent stores and markets in Toronto, dine at local restaurants, purchase directly from Toronto-based makers, visit farmers’ markets and local events, and promote local businesses online.
