Team Canada Olympians are giving back to their communities with the sixth edition of the OLY Grants. Since 2019, the OLY Canada Legacy Grant has provided nearly $500,000 to improve sports and support athletes in local communities.
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) will give $100,000 in grants to 10 projects led by Olympians. Each project will focus on making sports more accessible, ensuring safety in sports, or promoting sustainability in their communities.
The OLY Canada Legacy Grant is a program by the Canadian Olympic Committee that helps make sports better, safer, and more welcoming for everyone. It supports projects in three areas:
- Podium, which helps athletes and the sports system.
- Play, which makes sports more inclusive and easier for young people and communities to join
- Planet, which focuses on protecting the environment and keeping our sports spaces clean and healthy.
According to Olympians Canada, OLY is a special title given to honor anyone who has competed in the Olympic Games for their hard work, dedication, and connection to Olympic values. It is much like adding “PhD” or “MD” after a name, as a personal achievement that represents the spirit of the Olympics.
