Marie’s Memory Bears Are Helping People Save Loved Ones’ Memories

Marie Blundon of Corner Brook has been helping people preserve the memory of their loved ones through memory bears. What started as her first crafted bear to honour the memory of her late father is bringing joy to many of her customers.

Mary grew up sewing and repurposing fabrics and was inspired by her mother’s old-fashioned quilts made from recycled clothes. She also upcycles old jeans into tote bags, continuing her passion for sustainable crafting. Marie Blundon was into upcycling before it was trendy.

Marie crafted her first bear nearly five years ago from her late father Simon Tucker’s silky pyjamas as a keepsake. Since then, she has crafted countless memory bears from sentimental fabrics, turning beloved clothing into cherished tributes displayed in homes across the community.

Marie receives frequent requests for memory bears and pillows, which she then crafts carefully with delicate, well-worn fabrics that hold deep meaning for their owners. Sometimes, she combines clothing from both parents into one bear. The personal stories behind each piece touch her heart, and she takes great pride in her work. Seeing the emotional reactions from those receiving the bears makes it all worthwhile.

In addition to memory bears, memory pillows, and the upcycled jean tote bags, Marie also creates quilts and Tooth Fairy pillows.
