LOVE Quebec Helps Youth Overcome Social Isolation

A program is helping Montreal youth overcome violence and social isolation while navigating online pressures through the arts. LOVE Quebec has supported many youth in growing their self-confidence since the 1990s.

Since 1993, LOVE, or Leave Out ViolencE, Quebec has been helping vulnerable young people in Montreal, especially those affected by bullying or violence. The organization creates safe and welcoming spaces for youth to improve their mental health through creative, arts-based activities. The LOVE Media Arts Program helps youth build emotional intelligence, confidence, and strong, healthy relationships. The program also helps young people become more resilient, gain new skills, and grow into confident, caring leaders.

In 2023-2024, LOVE (Québec) programs supported 2,463 young people. 97% of former participants said the program helped them decide to stay in school or continue their education. Also, 81% of youth said LOVE (Québec) gave them the skills and confidence to help friends and others when they need support.

According to Robyn Dalton, executive director of LOVE, the program creates a safe space for young people to work through their trauma without the pressure of addressing emotions directly and verbally. He believes that the participants choose to stay because the space allows them to explore their vulnerabilities at their own pace, in addition to their interest in the arts.
