A pumpkin farmer in Manitoba was deeply moved by the kindness and support of strangers after her social media post brought dozens of people to help save her pumpkin crop from back-to-back frosts.
Melody Schwabe, who runs Schwabe Pumpkins in St. Andrews, shared an emotional video after frost badly damaged her crop. She explained that the cold destroyed the protective leaves and, with another frost on the way, she did not know how they would get all the pumpkins off the field in time. Normally, her family harvests with help from friends, but this year the frost arrived too early, forcing them to pick pumpkins that were not fully ready. She said they had hoped for a later frost, like last year, to give the pumpkins more time to ripen.
Her video, in which she shared her worries, reached many people, and Schwabe was amazed when strangers began showing up at her farm to help pick pumpkins. Some brought food and drinks, while others worked late into the night alongside her family. She said the kindness, hugs, and encouragement from everyone were overwhelming, and she felt truly grateful.
