The PEI Community got together to raise money for the MacPherson Willis family after the Eaton fire demolished their home and neighbourhood in Altadena during the California Wildfires. The community has raised over $54,000 for Laura, Peter, and their two children, Simon and Finley, to help them find temporary relief as they rebuild their lives.
Laura MacPherson and her family had to flee their home in Altadena, California, with just a backpack each when the wildfire threatened their neighbourhood. The family is currently staying with loved ones in Oceanside. Knowing their struggle, their brother organized a fundraiser in Charlottetown on Jan. 18 featuring live music, a silent auction, and a donation of half of all beverage sales to help the family rebuild their lives.
The GoFundMe fundraise surpassed the $50,000 target to help the family cover costs that insurance and FEMA will not cover, including temporary housing, essentials like clothing and school supplies, and support for neighbours who needed help with food, supplies, and home goods.
The MacPherson Willis family has been overwhelmed with gratitude for the kindness and support they have received from their PEI community. With their immediate needs met, the family is now focused on helping others in their new community. They deeply appreciate every effort made to support families in need and will continue sharing resources to help those affected.
