Country musician Remigio Pereira recently hosted two special Christmas concerts on Dec. 14 and 15 at the St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, raising enough donations to support 31 vulnerable families in their time of need. Deeply moved by the struggles faced by many in the Annapolis Valley, with some living in their vehicles or the woods and others battling to make ends meet, Pereira felt compelled to take action.
Titled A Concert of Compassion, the event featured Pereira alongside the Annapolis Voices, pianist Tara Scott, cellist Ifan Williams, and composer Jeanette Y’Lania. The concerts combined classical music, Christmas favourites, and a few of Pereira’s guitar pieces to raise funds for local families in need. The goal was to raise $12,000, with 100% of the proceeds donated to support struggling families.
Since moving to Annapolis County in 2021, Juno Award-winning artist Pereira has consistently used his talents to uplift the community. In 2023, his concert raised $5,000, which supported 14 families in Annapolis County and Digby. The funds were used to provide groceries, gas and medication gift cards, and bus tickets, all delivered directly to recipients.
The initiative, driven by local connections and word of mouth, ensures help reaches those who need it most. Donations are delivered anonymously in packages accompanied by a note titled A Gift from God, offering encouragement and reminding recipients they’re not alone.
As a founding member of The Canadian Tenors, Pereira has performed with icons like Sir Paul McCartney, Sting, and Andrea Bocelli. His ongoing efforts in Annapolis County reflect his dedication to using his platform to make a difference, one family at a time.
