The Barrie community came together and raised over $110,000 during the recent Barrie MS Walk on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Heritage Park in Barrie, Ontario.
The fundraising event was a significant success as it raised $110,854 to support Canadians living with MS. A total of 356 individuals, organized into 42 teams, participated to make a difference for those living with multiple sclerosis. Collectively, the participants contributed 26,626 minutes of effort and activity, demonstrating strong community spirit and commitment to helping others.
According to MS Canada, Canada has one of the highest rates of the disease in the world, with one in 400 Canadians living with multiple sclerosis. Roughly 12 Canadians are diagnosed daily, with women making up 70 to 75 per cent of cases. Diagnosis typically occurs between the ages of 20 and 49. MS Canada states the disease places a significant economic burden on the health-care system, with costs projected to reach $2 billion by 2031.
The 2026 MS Walks took place across 50 in-person locations in North America on Sunday, May 31, as part of MS Awareness Month. The walks have so far raised $3,876,595.62 with the help of 12,722 participants in 1,602 teams.
