As the Township of Minden Hills in Ontario faced a state of emergency from flooding, volunteers from GlobalMedic, search and rescue teams, firefighters, and local residents came together to help.
The township received support from GlobalMedic, a disaster relief charity, and the Ontario Corps to fill sandbags. They were joined by local residents, and everyone worked together to help protect homes from flooding in Minden Hills after a state of emergency was declared last week.
About 100 volunteers got together in the Township of Minden Hills in Haliburton County. The volunteers from GlobalMedic were joined by local residents, search and rescue teams**, and** firefighters. Together, they filled over 1,400 sandbags in just one morning using a sandbagging machine.
Despite the rain and tough conditions, the community showed strong support, with people bringing food, water, and supplies and helping however they could. The Township of Minden Hills declared a state of emergency**, and bridges over the Gull River in Minden Hills were closed** until further notice.
Volunteers also assisted at evacuation centres and delivered sandbags to those who could not leave their homes, showing the power of communities coming together in difficult times.
