The senior tenants of a residential tower recently came together to celebrate their community and its aging-in-place program that is helping them stay active, connected, and independent.
It was the third anniversary event for the Oasis program at Bayview Towers, which brought together residents, volunteers, and community partners. The program has helped seniors stay healthy, active, and engaged while creating a supportive and welcoming community for older adults living independently in their homes.
The program brings fitness classes, healthy meals, and social activities directly into the building, making it easier for seniors to access support without leaving home. Residents say the program has helped create a caring community where people can make friends, stay engaged, and avoid loneliness.
The initiative was made possible through a partnership between Roots Community Food Centre, Red River Holdings, and Oasis, a national program run through Queen’s University. The celebration also recognized the volunteers, community partners, and program leaders who have helped create a supportive environment.
