The community in Steinbach rallied to support the emergency food drive organized by South East Helping Hands in southeastern Manitoba.
Ken Dyck, executive director of South East Helping Hands, was overwhelmed with the incredible community support, including donations of food and financial contributions. The emergency drive was organized quickly after Dyck spoke to the city council in Steinbach about the urgent need for donations. Dyck shared that local businesses and residents gave generously, making it one of the most successful drives they’ve seen.
There were personal stories behind the donations, including three foster boys who used their own money to buy cereal to give to the food bank. Dyck said moments like these show the true spirit of giving and help teach younger generations the importance of helping others in need.
South East Helping Hands is a non-profit organization based in Steinbach that has been helping people in southeastern Manitoba since 1980. The organization provides food support to more than 20 local groups and distributes about 400 food hampers every two weeks. Though the recent food drive was a big success, donations are always welcome and can be made at the organization’s Main Street location during regular business hours.
