An initiative from a brain injury patient brought the community together to raise money and help Parkwood Institute purchase a therapy system in London, Ontario.

Earlier in May 2025, Hassan Abdul-Wahed spent months at St. Joseph’s Health Care London, where he received excellent care and made a near-miraculous recovery. Inspired by Hassan’s journey, Canadian Cedars of Hope and Community Care TD created Miles for Minds to give back to the community that helped make his recovery possible.

The 5K Run and Community Walk set a goal of raising $55,000 to help St. Joseph’s Health Care London purchase a new XCITE T.W.O. Functional Electrical Stimulation System, an advanced rehabilitation device that uses electrical stimulation to help patients regain strength, movement, and independence. The technology can be used for patients with a brain injury, a stroke, or a spinal cord injury.

The event drew participation from many Londoners over the weekend who took part in a run/walk and helped raise money for a critical therapy system. The initiative helped raise about $7,000 toward the goal of $55,000 to purchase the XCITE Therapy System.
