The Lethbridge community stepped up to show support for veterans, as the donation van had to be emptied to make room for additional donations of food and essential items for local veterans and their families.
The ‘Stuff the Van’ donation drive by the Veterans Association Food Bank last month brought the Lethbridge community together to support local veterans in need. The community showed up in great numbers throughout the day to donate food and supplies. The event was built around the idea that small acts of kindness can make a big difference for veterans who once chose to serve their country.
The donations from the Lethbridge community went directly to veterans and families who need help. Organizers explained that many veterans face challenges after leaving military service, including injuries, financial stress, and difficulties adjusting to civilian life. Some are forced to choose between paying for food, rent, or medication.
The Veterans Association Food Bank has been serving the community for about four years, providing not only food hampers but also peer support and understanding through its “veterans helping veterans, backed by community” approach. During the donation drive, some people donated small items, while others arrived with full bags prepared for the drive.
