In yet another example of people being amazing, a neighbourhood in Halifax is pitching in to buy a new wheelchair for a small dog after her custom wheelchair was stolen.
Smidgen is a 10-year-old Chihuahua mix who was left paralyzed from the waist down about six years ago. Her family got her a custom-made wheelchair to help her walk around, and the dog has never slowed down since.
According to the owner, Lisa Lavoie, the Chihuahua recently underwent emergency surgery, and her set of wheels was stolen from their porch. When the family put out calls on social media searching for the custom set of wheels, they got no solid leads.
But the community took notice, and Stephanie Gustys organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise money and help get a new set of custom wheels for Smidgen to move around. The community quickly pitched in and raised $3,600, which is enough money to replace the wheelchair and pay for some of the dog’s medical bills.
Both the owner and Smidgen are grateful to the community for their support and are looking forward to being able to get out for a walk again.
