Grimsby Community Rallies to Rebuild Barn After Fire

The community in Grimsby is helping rebuild the Sieberts’ barn, the heart of 9 Acres Organic Farm, which was destroyed in March after a devastating fire.

About 10 years ago, Carolyne Siebert and Rodney Siebert moved to the community and put their heart and soul into the land to build the ‘9 Acres’ organic farm. The farm grows tomatoes, peppers, and garlic, which are sold to the community at the on-farm shop and at seasonal markets at the Grimsby Farmers Market. The Sieberts are an important part of the community, and the affection was reflected when the community showed up in full force to clean up after the fire.

The barn had stood there for 100 years before it went up in flames. It took firefighters hours to manage the situation. The fire damaged more than just products and farm equipment, as the barn also doubled as a space for yoga and storage for personal items.

The community support after the unfortunate incident has been overwhelming, as volunteers are helping clean up the space, cash donations have been made, and children have drawn some very uplifting pictures. Friends have set up a GoFundMe to support Carolyne & Rodney in rebuilding their farm.

While it might take years to rebuild the barn, the Sieberts are doing their best to carry on with business despite the challenges and are getting ready for their annual seedling sale. The seedling sale is scheduled for three weekends next month: May 8–9, May 15–16, and May 22–23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, and pre-orders are available.
