Tori Kyrychenko, a Grade 11 student at Heritage Woods Secondary School in Port Moody, British Columbia, has built a free online website for the community to find parking passes at popular Buntzen Lake in the Village of Anmore.
The high school student from Metro Vancouver created Spotzen to help people find parking at popular Buntzen Lake during the busy summer season. The website allows users to choose the type and date of the parking pass they need. When the pass becomes available, users get notified through an email with a link to the official booking website.
Spotzen does not book passes automatically, but it uses technology to help people avoid constantly checking for cancellations and secure a pass, solving a real-life problem.
Kyrychenko was inspired to build the free tool for the community after experiencing her own family’s frustration with constantly checking for available parking passes during the busy summer season. She spent eight months developing the service to help visitors enjoy the popular summer destination without the stress of repeatedly refreshing the reservation website.
Spotzen has helped reduce congestion during peak season, support emergency access, and help people enjoy one of the most beautiful destinations in B.C.’s Lower Mainland. Kyrychenko is receiving praise online for her work on Spotzen.
