Over 30 people took part in the Estevan Legion’s latest poker tournament, bringing people together and helping raise money for the Legion’s programs and community work.
The monthly tournaments will be held during the colder months, with part of the money going toward veterans’ programs and other community initiatives. Branch 60 President Frosty Forest said the fall event was the first tournament of the season, and the Legion will organize the tournaments about once a month through the winter.
The Estevan Legion has been running its Texas Hold’em poker tournaments for about 10 years. Players pay $100 to participate and can pay another $100 for one rebuy. Some of the money goes toward the winners’ prizes, while the rest helps the Legion support its community programs and activities. Over the years, the events have become an important way for the Legion to raise money while bringing people together.
The tournaments help bring the community together and build camaraderie around the table while players get to socialize. The funds raised through the tournaments support a variety of causes, including the local nursing home, the Humane Society, Creighton Lodge, STARS Ambulance, and veterans’ programs. The Legion’s next poker tournament is scheduled for Oct. 25.
