Don and Jill Taylor have made a leadership gift of $500,000 to Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation’s Elevating Care campaign, which will help expand access to diagnostic care for Delta residents.

The Taylor family’s generous donation is among the first major contributions to the campaign to bring MRI services to Delta Hospital. Once available, these services will allow local residents to access advanced medical imaging closer to home.

The foundation’s Bringing MRI to Delta Campaign was launched on Sept. 15 with the aim of raising $18 million to buy equipment and renovate Delta Hospital so it can offer MRI services for the first time. The project is a partnership between the hospital foundation and Fraser Health, which will manage the construction, staffing, and daily operations.

Don and Jill Taylor decided to support the campaign because they have called Delta home for the past 10 years and believe local residents should have access to advanced health care close to home. The couple believes that MRI services at Delta Hospital are long overdue and will help thousands of people get important medical tests without having to travel outside their community. The new MRI service will provide about 10,000 scans annually.

Last year, over 5,400 Delta residents travelled outside their community to get MRI scans. With the growing and aging population, Delta’s need for better access to medical services is increasing. The Taylors contributed an initial $500,000 to help launch the $18-million campaign. The couple hopes that their gift will encourage others to contribute and help the community access important health-care services closer to home.
