A family from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, is thankful for the kindness and support they have received from the community in Newfoundland after a tragic car crash near St. Jude’s last month.
The collision claimed the life of Charlie Morrison, a husband and father, and seriously injured his teenage son, CJ, who was travelling with him. Both were on a father-son trip, and Charlie was known to be a great dad and husband. When Shannon Reid, Charlie’s relative by marriage, heard about the tragic accident, she was heartbroken and wanted to help the family. She decided to raise money through a 50/50 block draw, a popular fundraising activity in her Cape Breton community.
Reid has organized many similar fundraisers for local people and family members over the years, and the community is always ready to lend a hand. With help from her aunt, Arlene Harrietha, Reid organized the Facebook fundraiser to support Charlie’s wife, Kelly, and their family during this difficult time.
The fundraiser received support from people across Newfoundland, who reached out with donations, bought fundraising blocks, and sent heartfelt messages of love and support. The community’s generosity helped Reid raise an incredible $10,000 for the family, including $8,000 from the 50/50 draw and another $2,000 in direct donations.
