Susan Aitken, a social worker from Prince Albert, has launched a new app called Find My Plus One to help people connect based on their shared interests and activities.
The “activity-first” app focuses on bringing people together based on their favourite activities, making it easier for users to meet others who like similar hobbies and experiences.
Aitken says loneliness has become a major problem, and many people are missing out on activities because they do not have company. The Find My Plus One app aims to change that, as it allows people to post activities they enjoy, like hiking or going to concerts, and connect with others who share those interests. Users can get to know each other at their own pace before deciding to meet.
The app focuses on friendship and shared experiences, though some people may also find deeper connections. The app includes a rating system and safety tips to help users feel more comfortable meeting someone new.
Aitken says she hopes the Saskatchewan-built app will help Canadians connect, build friendships, and enjoy life together. The app is currently launching across Canada for both Android and iOS.
