It took a community to help find the ring dropped in the sand during a couple’s romantic beach proposal.
A romantic proposal quickly turned into a community search after a Toronto couple dropped their engagement ring in the sand. Sam Bagel Lerner proposed to his girlfriend, Elyanna Remer, in a romantic beach proposal at Chantry Beach in Southampton, Ont., and she said yes. But shortly after the proposal, the ring was accidentally knocked to the ground and disappeared in the sand.
The couple could not find it, which led to panic. As local beachgoers learned what had happened, the community sprang into action, inviting people to bring their search equipment and help find the ring. The social media request was answered by many, as people began arriving with their equipment to help the young couple find their precious ring.
Southampton resident Saoirse Johnson brought along her brother’s decades-old metal detector. Everyone joined in the search as it got dark. After searching for more than an hour, the detector finally beeped, and the missing engagement ring was found with the help of a sieve.
Elyanna’s mother, Sandy Remer, said finding the ring was a true community effort, with strangers coming together to help the couple. The emotional couple was deeply thankful for everyone who took the time to help. They plan to get married next summer and hope to return to the beach.
