Charlottetown Community Gets Together to Plant Hundreds of Trees

Residents of the city of Charlottetown got together for a recent community greening event to plant hundreds of trees at the Charlottetown park.

Despite the rains, volunteers showed up and got their hands dirty at the community greening and tree-planting event organized by the City of Charlottetown at River Ridge Park last month. The City hopes to turn the grass space into a forested area for wildlife.

Volunteers managed to plant about 250 different kinds of trees that are well suited to Prince Edward Island’s environment. The tree plantation efforts aim to help increase biodiversity, provide homes for wildlife, and make the forest stronger for the future. The city plans to plant a total of 500 trees by the end of the year.

The project, funded by Green Communities Canada, hopes to inspire people to care for nature and plant more trees in their own communities for future generations. Green Communities Canada‘s Living Cities Fund supports community greening projects across the country. The City of Charlottetown also plans to add the park to the iNaturalist app to track how plants, insects, and wildlife grow and change over time.
