Canadians Called to Sign, Share and Celebrate National Resilience Day

Canadians are being invited to sign an official House of Commons petition supporting recognition of September 24 as National Resilience Day across the country.

The initiative aims to bring Canadians together around a simple idea: one day, one country, and one million acts of resilience. The day would recognize the difficult changes many people experience, such as serious illness, loss of a loved one, caregiving, disability, divorce, job loss, financial hardship, or natural disasters.

Organizers hope that September 24 will encourage Canadians to support one another during challenging times and remind people that they do not have to face major life changes alone.

The initiative encourages people to sign and share the petition and, on September 24, take part in an “Act of Resilience” by helping someone who is going through an unexpected or difficult change. The initiative aims to inspire one million acts of kindness.

The campaign is connected to When Life Changes Everything, a national resilience initiative founded by Allen S. Lycka to support people facing major life changes such as illness, grief, caregiving, or job loss. Lycka has submitted a petition to the House of Commons seeking national recognition for National Resilience Day. The petition needs at least 500 valid signatures to be certified and presented to the House of Commons.
