The Canada Post Community Foundation recently donated $25,000 to the Friends In Need Food Bank in Maple Ridge for the Perishable Food Recovery Program.

Since the 1980s, the Friends in Need Food Bank has been helping people in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows by providing food and essential care items to those who need support. The food bank supports more than 2,700 people each month, including families, seniors, and individuals. Its goal is not only to make sure people have enough food, but also to build a healthier, stronger, and more caring community.

The $25,000 donation from the Canada Post Community Foundation will help support the food bank’s food recovery program, which rescues good-quality fresh food every day and distributes it to families and individuals in the community. The food bank says the funding comes at an important time, as there is uncertainty about the long-term location of its recovery facility, and the money will help strengthen the program, prepare for possible changes, and ensure fresh food continues to reach people who need it. The donation will also help reduce food waste while improving food security in the community.

The Canada Post Community Foundation supports a variety of projects with a focus on health, education, and community. The registered charity distributes grants to Canadian schools, charities, and community organizations that provide programming to children and youth up to age 21. Since its founding in 2012, the foundation has provided $16.4 million to more than 1,400 projects nationwide.
