BC Residents Gear Up for GoByBike Spring Week

GoByBike Week is all set to return to the province of British Columbia for its spring edition from May 30 to June 5.

The province-wide initiative encourages British Columbians to ride their bikes as much as possible and take them to work, to school, for fun, for exercise, to relieve stress, or just to clear their minds. The initiative allows participants the chance to enter daily draws and compete for larger grand prizes simply by logging their bike trips during the event. While more details about the prize lineup will be announced in early May, participants have won bike merchandise, gift cards, and discount coupons in previous editions.

The event aims to make cycling fun while encouraging more people to stay active and choose biking for transportation and recreation. It all began in 1995 in Victoria when about 500 commuter cyclists wanted to promote biking as a way to get to work. Over time, the program has grown to include Bike to School activities, with many communities now hosting events for both students and workers.

In 2025, GoByBike Weeks made a big impact across British Columbia as more than 60,000 participants logged over 375,000 rides and cycled more than 4.4 million km. Last year, cyclists in BC logged more than 790,000 rides and travelled nearly 12 million km by bike, preventing over 2.6 million kg of greenhouse gas emissions, which is equal to taking about 600 passenger cars off the road for a full year. You can find more information about the event here.
