A Barrie baker has relaunched an online cookie fundraiser to support the Posie family after five-year-old Abby’s cancer returned. Sophie Rennie, owner of Sweet & Sassie Bake Shop, first launched the campaign in February 2024, raising more than $10,000 through the sale of 365 boxes of cookies.
The Barrie business owner once again helped bring the community together to support a five-year-old girl named Abby, who has been battling cancer. Sophie Rennie restarted her cookie fundraiser after learning that Abby’s cancer returned in April 2025, just six months after she had been cancer-free. The community came together again to help support the Posie family through the latest fundraiser. A GoFundMe campaign was also launched in 2023 to assist the family. So far, the campaign has raised $53,487 of the $75,000 target.
Rennie says Abby has become very special to her, like a little friend. While Abby and her family spent more time in the hospital, Rennie encouraged the community to support the Cookies for Abby fundraiser by buying cookies to help the family during this difficult time.
Abby has been undergoing treatment for the past year. The young girl was admitted to The Hospital for Sick Children on Jan. 6 and started a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. On Jan. 13, the family shared that Abby finished her first round of treatment and was able to leave the hospital. They are staying at the Ronald McDonald House while Abby attends more medical appointments and tests to check how the treatment is working.
