Anonymous animal lovers have pledged $200,000 to help the Edmonton Humane Society reach its $2.4 million fundraising goal for renovations.

As the Edmonton Humane Society turned to the community to help raise $2.4 million for much-needed renovations, its plea was answered by two anonymous animal lovers who decided to support the campaign by matching up to $200,000 in donations.

The Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) was founded in 1907 and has been helping animals for more than a century. Renovations began in April for the Adoption Gallery, which opened in 2009, and will repair areas that have experienced years of wear and tear after caring for hundreds of thousands of animals. The upgrades will also improve animal comfort and care, including new and improved spaces and a special kitten gallery that will keep young kittens away from older cats while their immune systems are still developing.

The EHS is a registered charity that depends mainly on donations to care for and find new homes for abandoned and neglected animals. It helps connect animals and people through advocacy, education, and community engagement. So far, the organization has reached 84 per cent of its fundraising goal.
