The Winnipeg Firefighters recently conducted their 13th annual fundraiser for muscular dystrophy by camping out to raise $55,000. Rain or shine, the firefighters stayed outside to show their support.
From April 8 to 10, a group of Winnipeg firefighters camped on the roof of Fire Station #4 in Osborne Village, intending to raise money and awareness for people living with muscular dystrophy. The annual Rooftop Campout supports Muscular Dystrophy Canada, a non-profit organization that helps those affected by neuromuscular disorders through programs, research, and advocacy.
The event got off to a good start – on the first day, the firefighters raised nearly $12,000 out of the year’s goal of $55,000. People were able to donate directly on Osborne Street and buy t-shirts at the fire hall. One of the firefighters mentioned that they enjoy helping others and being involved in the community, and this event is their way of giving back and supporting those with muscular dystrophy.
For 70 years, firefighters across Canada have supported Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC). They have raised money and helped thousands of Canadians with neuromuscular disorders.
