The residents and local businesses of Wetaskiwin are raising funds for the community spray park. The group has already raised $380,000 and has pledged $205,500 more.

Wetaskiwin is the only town in Alberta with a population between 6,000 and 20,000 without a spray park. The park will feature a playground, fitness area, picnic spots, and washrooms for the community to use, including people with disabilities. As Wetaskiwin has limited free and accessible recreation spaces, the community spray park would provide a safe, fun place to enjoy for all.

It would also attract visitors and help local businesses. The full project could cost up to $1.2 million, but that amount might change as plans are finalized. The community expects to start building this summer and is raising funds from grants, donations, and community fundraisers.

Recently a local clinic, Spring Dental, made a donation of $60,000 to sponsor a special water tower feature for the park. This donation is part of the growing community support towards the project and shows how local businesses can make a big difference when they come together.

The spray park committee, which is 100% community-led, expects to order the equipment soon so that the park can be open to the public by late summer. Another fundraiser in the form of a pancake breakfast is scheduled for May 25, as the committee is requesting donations of materials and services to help lower costs.
