Victoria, B.C., has been named the most generous city in Canada for 2025, according to GoFundMe, for the third time in a row.
The list released recently by the crowdfunding platform highlights Canadian communities that donated the most to fundraisers during a year when many people were facing financial challenges. Across the country, more than 1.7 million people made donations, with about four donations happening every minute.
The rankings are based on how many people donated, compared to the size of each city. With one in five residents donating to at least one fundraiser, Victoria topped the rankings for the third year in a row. North Vancouver and Vancouver were next, and St. John’s was the top city outside of British Columbia.
GoFundMe CEO Tim Cadogan shared that the rankings reveal how people came together to help others when help was needed. One of the campaigns highlighted this year was led by Toronto advocate Ryan Donais. His Tiny Tiny Homes project builds small, temporary shelters for people experiencing homelessness, raising nearly $140,000 in 2025.
Toronto raised the most money in Canada for education, medical needs, and emergency causes, showing that many people continue to need support in these areas.
